Ss. Salvatore's Dome

The dome of Ss. Salvatore has an elliptical shape, high around 60 meters. After climb his 141 steps, you can walk around and have a 360° view of Palermo.

Finished in 1690, for it's dimension was one of the biggest in south-Italy. Built under a dodecagonal lantern with aspra stones, in the origin had greek statues and maiolic floor both in part destroyed during the second world war.  From here the nuns who used to live in the monastery next to the church, had a good point of view of the city  and also for the procession expecially the one of the Saint patron S. Rosalia. In 1960 was restored by Franco Minissi inside (where we can admire the fresco of Vito D'anna) and outside covered with cement and wood ceiling for repair it from water infiltrations and structural problems.
