Saint'Antonio Abate's Civic Tower

Built between the old and the new part of the city, the Church of Sant'Antonio Abate listen to historic heritage has been present in this site since 1220, when became parish in the place of the church of S. Cataldo. Rebuilt in XVI century by Antonio Belguardo in his shape since touching the tower bell.

Built between 1302-1313 by Manfredi Chiaramonte know as the Old, in the place of the ruins of the tower of Pharat. More high in the origins with three more floors, has a square plant and used as a civic tower because at the top of it was the senatory bell made in 1379 and udible in any part of the city. His ring called not only the faithful but also the citizen anytime the senatory palace and the sicilian parlament had a counsil. The watch on the second floor has a white marble ring representing a sun with numbers and bronze needles who signed any hours expecially 2:00 am, when the citizen cannot walked on street anymore. On side of the watch, the aralds of palermitan senate and the Chiaamonte's family. On present day high was reduced in 1595 due to fluctuations caused by strong wind and for heaviness of the bell.  

Opening hours: from october to march: from monday to saturday from 09:30 am to 01:00 pm and from 02:00 pm to 04:30 pm; Sunday from 01:00 pm to 04:30 pm; from march to october from 09:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 02:30 pm to 05:30 pm; sunday from 01:30 pm to 05:30 pm
